Tangail growers get fair market price of radish

TANGAIL, Oct 26: Radish growers of the district are making a good profit this season for fair market price of the item.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail sources said over 1,250 hectares of land have been brought under radish cultivation this year.

A good number of farmers said radish harvest is going on in full swing in all the 12 upazilas of the district and cultivators are happy over the present market price.

A vegetable trader of the Soyanibazar Shajedul Islam said a bundle (five to six pieces) of radish was sold at Tk 20 to Tk 30 at the beginning of the season which is now selling at Tk 10 to Tk 15.

Farmer Md Hasan Miah of Babupur village under Tangail Sadar said he has cultivated radish on 45 decimals of land this season.

He said he has already made a profit of Tk 20,000 from the sale of the produce and is expecting to earn more till the rest of the season.

Another farmer Ashraf Miah of Char Pakullah village said radish a popular item among the peasants in the area. Many of them have attained financial solvency by producing the vegetable.

Ruhul Amin, sub-assistant agriculture officer at Tangail DAE, said radish farming is expanding across the district. Low production cost, high production and good market demand are the main reasons behind the popularity of the item.

The DAE office provides all necessary to the radish growers so that they can produce the vegetable without any hassle, he added.
