Tangail sees bumper yield of spring onion

TANGAIL, Dec 06: Spring onion growers in the district are getting a bumper yield this season.

Sources said good production and fair market prices have encouraged the growers to cultivate the item on a vast tract of land.

Many growers in the area have made a handsome profit by cultivating the item commercially this season.

Cultivators grow the popular item in both the homestead and main crop land.

Officials at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail, said spring onion cultivation is popular in the area. Soil of most the area of the district is suitable for spring onion production.

Sadar, Nagorpur, Bhuapur and Mirzapur upazilas of the district are well-known from growing quality spring onion, the officials added.

Sub-assistant of Agriculture Officer of DAE Shariful Islam said spring onion growers in the district have achieved a bumper output this season.

The department provided all necessary support in this connection, they added.

Trader Aminur Rahman of Park Moydan Bazar in the district said spring onion has flooded the kitchen market across the district. The popular vegetable is also sent to different districts for high demand.

Mohammed Ali he cultivated spring onion in 25 decimals of land this season.

The grower said farming of the item is expanding in the area for high market prices.
