Tk 1.0b special sanitation, water supply project taken for two Sunamganj upazilas

SYLHET, July 08: A special development programme on sanitation and water-supply system has started in Jogonnathpur and Dakshin Sunamganj upazilas of Sunamganj district.
The Department of Public Health Engineering is the implementing body.
The poor and marginal people of the two backward haor upazilas would be provided with basic facilities through setting up of tube wells, deep tube-wells for safe water and hundred per cent sanitation programme costing a total of Tk 1.0 billion, sources informed.
The project is being implemented with the initiatives of the Planning Minister MA Mannan, also the lawmaker of the constituency - Sunamganj-4.
Tk 500 million would be spent for the target people in eight unions and a municipality under Jogonnathpur upazila for setting up tube-wells and sanitation facilities.
Under the programme, every five to 10 families would be set under one tube-well while sanitation would be provided to the listed poor families.
Listing of the beneficiaries started on Sunday in wards # 7, 8, and 9 in Jogonnathpur upazila through the local representatives and leading people, the official said.
Then the PHE officials would make a home to home survey before implementation of the project. Same job would be done in eight unions of Dakshin Sunamganj upazila.
