BOGRA, Feb 25: Some people of Kahaloo upazila in the district have been rearing turkey hen from the last year.

Upazila livestock officer Munwarul Islam said turkey hen rearing is a profitable venture. One can change his/her socio-economic condition by rearing the bird on commercial basis.

"I have started rearing five turkey hens from the last year spending over Tk 5,600," said Aminur Islam of Borobadaher village. He said he added some more birds this year.

A matured turkey hen is being sold at Tk 3,000 to Tk 4,000. A rearer can earn Tk 50,000 to Tk 70,000 within six months, he added.

Turkey farm owners do not get adequate loan facilities. They urged the authority concerned to take immediate steps so that the turkey rearers can extend their farm.

"I have started turkey hen rearing this season spending Tk 40,000," said farmer Hisan Uddin Tufany of Dehor village. He further said, "I am expecting to make over Tk 0.2 million if the market price remains high till the next few months."

District livestock officer Shahiduzzaman said, "We provide all necessary support to the rearers so that they can make good profit. Turkey hen rearing is increasing across the district."
