TANGAIL, July 07: A good number of people in different villages across all the 12 upazilas of the district have attained financial solvency by setting up small cattle and dairy farms.

The district livestock office sources said there are some 1,214 listed dairy farms in the district.

Many farms are yet to be enlisted with the office, the source added.

According to officials, they provide training to the unemployed youths, landless farmers and grassroots people on the cattle rearing.

According to officials and experts concerned, proper exploration of the prospective dairy sector by adopting latest technologies and comprehensive steps including setting up milk processing industries, can bring further change in rural economy.

Sources said dairy farm owners of the district are supplying hundreds of litres of milk every day to different milk production and processing companies after mitigating the local demand.

Siddique Hossain of Kazipur village under Sadar upazila said he has been rearing cattle for the past ten years.

Every year he buys four to five cows and rears those for six months to 18 months and then sells in the Eid-ul Azha market earning a good proft.

The rearer further said at present he has eight cows at his homestead farm.

He said easy-term loan facility would help flourish the sector.

It would play an important role in decreasing unemployment rate, he added.
