About army deployment during polls

The next general election of the country is just two months away. The voters are eagerly waiting for the election to be held smoothly. But, as has been witnessed during recent elections, the law and order situation deteriorates, especially in rural areas, during electioneering. In the past, ballot boxes were found to be snatched and voting centres were taken over by hoodlums in some parts of the country. Such practices spoil the otherwise celebratory mood of elections.

Under such circumstances, the Election Commission has an option of deploying the army and this has been done on many occasions. I hope the Election Commission will consider this idea to ensure a free, fair and inclusive election.
