App-based ride sharing and traffic rules

Ride-sharing services like Uber, Pathao and, Shohroz, especially their motor bike services have gained wide popularity in Dhaka city. To beat the traffic jam and reach the destination on time, commuters are using this mode of communication on a regular basis. However, the drivers of these vehicles give a damn to the existing traffic rules. Most of the time, it is observed that the drivers are honking unnecessarily and riding their bikes on the footpaths or pavements showing disrespect to traffic rules. Due to their reckless driving and unnecessary honking, pillions and passers-by fall victims to roads mishaps. Pillions succumbed to their injuries on some occasions. The authorities should regulate their activities and ensure that they abide by laws.
