Awareness to avert accidents

April 08, 2019 00:00:00

Another road accident took place on Friday last in Demra area of the capital and took away the life of a college student of Golam Mostafa Model College. A passenger bus of Ramzan Paribahan hit his cycle. He was killed on the spot. The accident sparked a strong protest in the area. Reckless driving was the cause of the accident.

Road accidents have increased in the country over the weeks.

Our lack of awareness is one of the many causes of road accidents. Pedestrians are to blame for careless walking, they are often busy with their phones.

It was Friday and I was out with my bicycle to enjoy some fresh air in Aftabnagar area of Rampura. When I was busy fixing my cycle in the repair shop, I saw four children aged around 10 to 12 years trying to cross the road running all on a sudden. Such things often cause an accident as the driver has no idea that someone will come suddenly before the speeding vehicle.

We need to teach our students about safe crossing of road and tell them when they are on highways or streets not to use cell phone as it can cause distraction and invite a fatal accident.

I hope everyone will be careful when they are on the road and remain alert to avoid an accident and potential danger. Every year road accidents cause a huge loss to our economy.
