Bangladesh Army in Rohingya crisis

October 24, 2017 00:00:00

MORE than five hundred thousand Rohingyas have so far fled the inhuman treatment of Myanmar army since August 25 this year and took refuge in Bangladesh. Rohingya issue has been at the centre of discussions in all international forums and world leaders and eminent personalities have already condemned the torture unleashed by the Myanmar military in bitterest languages. The level of atrocity of the Myanmar army has gone beyond tolerable limits and indiscriminate shooting and slaughtering of Rohingya people and burning of Rohingya houses continue unabated. Against the backdrop of the fast deteriorating situation, Bangladesh government's decision to deploy Bangladesh Army to oversee the plights of Rohingya refugees is indeed a timely move. At present the army medical team is working along with medical teams of different other organizations. They are helping to maintain discipline in distributing relief, building shelters and toilets for the refugees to ensure sanitation, etc. Initially the Bangladesh Army was engaged in distribution of relief materials received from foreign agencies to Rohingya camps. They are now doing everything including maintenance of law and order in the Rohingya camps. The efforts of Bangladesh Army are indeed laudable.
