Better social media use

October 23, 2019 00:00:00

The death of four people in clashes with law enforcers in Bhola on October 20 is regrettable. The incident took place following a provocative social media post. However, the Facebook identity holder reportedly complained about hacking. Still, many people believe what are posted on the social media, without cross-checking their authenticity.

With increasing social media use, such phenomena may turn often dangerous unless we properly educate people. Instead of spreading rumours through unsolicited accounts, the social media can be a platform for sharing authentic information and learning materials. Some people are doing business banking on their networking. That, too, needs regulation since consumers cannot be assured of quality of products they buy online. Therefore, apart from regulations, there should be social audits that would impel users to work for public welfare.
