Business brings peace

October 24, 2019 00:00:00

Only recently, the country has seen a crisis of onion following a ban on export of the essential item imposed by India. To meet the domestic need, Bangladesh imported onion from Myanmar. When the two countries have conflicting relations over the Rohingya issue, bilateral trade has not come to a halt. Think about China-India relations! Despite border tensions and rivalry over establishing hegemony in the Indian Ocean region, their trade volume increased over the years. The Hindu majority India imports many products of rituals, such as vermilion from China. China also exports electronic lamps (diya) used during Diwali festival in India.

Apart from India, Myanmar is Bangladesh's other next-door neighbour. We, as students of business, believe higher cross-border trade helps improve relations even between two enemy states. Can\t we think of resolving the Rohingya refugee crisis once and for all through better understanding with Myanmar by building confidence in trading relations?
