Candidate kidnapped

April 03, 2019 00:00:00

Emdadul Huq, one candidate for lecturer position at the Department of Zoology, University of Chittagong, was abducted by some 'powerful' students on the day when he was going to appear at the viva voce as part of the recruitment on March 27. Taken to central playground of the university, his money and cell phone were snatched. Also, he was harassed physically. Then, after the viva voce had been over around 12.30 pm, he was handed over to the police. On enquiry, police released him.

This is shocking news for us. Emdad scored 3.88 in honours and 3.96 in masters exams on a scale of 4. The brilliant youth, who stood first in both the exams, was the first to receive the Prime Minister's Gold Medal in the history of Zoology of Chattogram University, could not appear at the interview for his long-cherished job. His dreams to become a teacher of his own department for which he had been taking preparation for years were shattered.

We urge the university authority to let him appear for the interview under a special arrangement. Only in that way, can we respect our brilliant students. Otherwise, there is a chance that these brilliant youths will move to other countries of the world and will prove their competence there.
