Credit/debit card scam

March 22, 2018 00:00:00

ACCORDING to reports, at least 50 clients of five private commercial banks so far lost around Tk 2.0 million as a criminal gang withdrew the amount from different automated teller machine (ATM) booths of those banks by using cloned debit and credit cards. The number of the victims may be higher.

The victims and the bank officials said the frauds collected information for cloning the cards when the clients went to purchase in an outlet of a super shop in Banani area in the capital. The victims are clients of private banks named BRAC Bank, The City Bank, United Commercial Bank (UCB) and Bank Asia. All these clients have already filed complaints with their respective banks about unusual use of their cards. These incidents of fraud have left all cardholders unsafe and insecure. While the volume of these cards is on the rise, misappropriation of the same has become a major worry for all. Incidents of international card frauds have also been rising with many loopholes in the system. In the backdrop of a situation as this, banks must update their security system so that financial frauds cease to take place. The law enforcers must hunt down the criminals involved and make digital transaction safer and more secure.
