DITF: Winter attraction for city-dwellers

January 17, 2019 00:00:00

The Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) is going on in full swing at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of Dhaka. It is so popular that visitors crowd the fair even on weekdays. The weekends are busier.

The DITF has become a prime spot to go to during winter season as Dhaka does not offer much scope or areas for entertainment.

When I get a chance to go there, I love to roam around in the vast DITF premises. I visit all the different stalls and pavilions and buy from the ones offering attractive discounts. The most crowded stalls and pavilions at the fair are those of mobile phone companies. They offer mega discounts and cash-backs on products and accessories.

The DITF has been providing employment opportunity to young people. Around 4,000 people are employed on a temporary basis in the fair's 550 stalls. These young men and women gather experience and also earn some money during the month-long fair. Some companies hire full-time employees from this group after observing their performance.

I would like to thank the organisers of the DITF for organising vibrant fairs annually. I am sure that participation from more foreign brands at the fair can attract more visitors in the future.
