DU question paper leak, it's shocking

October 16, 2018 00:00:00

This letter is in reference to a news item titled "Detectives arrest six over DU 'Gha' unit question paper leak" that was published in the Financial Express on October 14. It is really shocking that the question papers of Dhaka University's entrance examination was leaked once again despite measures promised by the authorities concerned.

The question papers were leaked to the examinees through WhatsApp and other instant messaging apps nearly 43 minutes prior to the examination. This raises questions about the steps that were taken by the authorities concerned to curb such malpractice. Such leaking of question papers is not new in the case of Dhaka University. It took place in the past, following which the university administration had promised to take necessary steps that would stop leaks of question papers for good. But now it is apparent that those steps were largely ineffective.

The proctor office as well as the DU administration have denied outright the allegations of recent question paper leak despite handful of evidences of handwritten script, screenshots of original question etc. These monitoring bodies need to ensure security of entrance test question papers till the holding of examinations are completed. The authorities concerned should conduct an independent investigation into the malpractice, identify the person(s)/group(s)/masterminds working behind this shameful act and bring them to book immediately.
