Ekushey Book Fair

EKUSHEY book fair is not just a traditional fair, but it is a book festival where people gather in large numbers in a festive mood to buy books authored by the eminent writers of the country. Some latest foreign publications are also available, but local writers are the main attraction.

Ekushey Book Fair, bearing the memories of immortal language martyrs of the country, is popularly known as Ekushey Boi Mela which is the national book fair of Bangladesh. It is arranged each year by Bangla Academy and continues for the entire month of February. The fair is traditionally inaugurated by the Prime Minister of the country. It is a rendezvous for bookworms on one side and poets, novelists, creative writers, cultural activists, academicians and intellectuals on the other. Book lovers around the country wait eagerly throughout the year for the fair to open so that they can buy their most preferred books. Writers and publishers also look forward to the fair with their new publications. Bangla Academy organises various cultural shows on the occasion for entertaining the visitors to the fair. It is a meeting place for the authors who can not otherwise have suitable occasions to meet each other frequently and an opportunity for the readers to meet their favourite authors and interact with them. Most importantly, Ekushey Book Fair is a rearing ground for the budding writers.
