Eve teasing: No sign of respite

EVE-TEASING has been happening everywhere in the country, be it in a city or a remote village. But it is painful that a large number of young men from respectable families are found involved in the crime. Eve teasing is not just a simple crime as it looks, but it has a long and lasting effect on the morale of the girls, sometime driving them to commit suicide. We must not ignore it and make every effort to eradicate this social evil. The law enforcing agencies are also found to be quite lenient about it. Incidents of eve teasing come into focus only if the girls involved commit suicide. The law enforcing agencies and the society-at-large should change their mindset and stop treating eve teasing as a minor offence. We should be tough on the offenders as they are creating a social problem and harming women's progress. Eve teasing also creates a sense of insecurity among girls. Men in our society must learn to respect women as they are the ones who brought them to this earth.
