France wins FIFA World Cup for second time

July 17, 2018 00:00:00

France has won the FIFA World Cup (WC) for the second time after a well-fought battle with Croatia. The French were under pressure in the first half and played a controlled football and in the end, they showed the quality of true champions. They won against Croatia by a 4-2 margin. The 19-year-old Kylian Mbappe was not even born when his nation had lifted the trophy for the first time in 1998. But he made a lasting impression in his WC debut. Spectators enjoyed a thrilling game as Croatia's never-say-die attitude kept the game alive even when they were trailing by a 4-2 margin. With the win, French coach Didier Deschamps became the third man in the history of WC football -- after Brazil's Mario Zagallo and Germany's Franz Beckenbauer -- to win the competition both as a player and coach. I would like to congratulate France for winning the cup. Croatia also deserves praise for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament. England's Harry Kane won the Golden Boot as the WC's top scorer while Croatia's Luka Modric won the Golden Ball for being the best player of the tournament. Belgium's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois won the Golden Gloves and French teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe was given the Young Player Award. We now have to wait another four years for the Qatar WC.
