Government should support more films like 'Debi'

November 11, 2018 00:00:00

Finally, I watched 'Debi' in the cinema hall. Directed by Anam Biswas, the movie is based on a novel written by the late Humayun Ahmed. I have to say that the director has done a wonderful job as it was not easy to bring the character of Misir Ali properly to the silver screen. But the director did it with great flair!

Chanchal Chowdhury as Misir Ali and Jaya Ahsan as Ranu did justice to their roles. Sabnam Faria as Nilu was marvellous. Animesh Aich and Iresh Zaker also performed very well.

'Debi' is a treat for the fans of Humayun Ahmed. The film had received the National Film Grant. As it is doing very well in the theatres, I hope the Bangladesh government will encourage this type of movies more in the future. Such support will help the local movie sector grow, which has not been faring well over the past decade or so.

I hope that the director and producer of this movie will bring many more novels of Humayun Ahmed to the silver screen in the years to come.
