Harassing women: An alarming issue

March 20, 2019 00:00:00

Nowadays Dhaka is one of the most unsafe places in the world. And this turns worse when it comes to security of women. Women are harassed when they are out for their work. They are abused in their homes too. Female children are also the victims. The reasons why women are being harassed could be lack of women empowerment, vulnerability of girls, lack of sex education, domestic violence, misusing liberty, cheap mindset, lack of awareness, lack of improper punishment and improper response to harassment complaints.

The government should impose an anti-harassment policy and ensure punishment so that ladies are safe both at home and outside. Management of organisations should focus on harassment-free work places.

Thorough investigation should be ordered to address complaints against female harassment. Actions are crucial for discriminatory pictures, jokes, posters, graffiti etc.

Both male and female awareness and education are needed to make this world a better and safe place for our future generation.
