Home-bound Eid journey

EVERY year, we see a majority of the city dwellers leaving Dhaka during the Eid holidays to celebrate the holy occasion with their near and dear ones. For this, they defy all difficulties during the journey when the women, children and elderly people suffer most. It appears that the authorities wake up at the last moment only when the holidays come closer and try to mitigate the sufferings of home-bound passengers. The scenario is not likely to be much different this year too. Media reports have it that most of the highways are not in an ideal condition and are only going to add to the woes of the commuters. I hope this time the government lives up to its commitment of fixing the roads in time and commuters will suffer less.
