Improving the business environment of Bangladesh
March 24, 2019 00:00:00
It is great to know that the government is taking steps to ensure that doing business in Bangladesh becomes easier and it regards Singapore as its role model. Now for the industrial import permit, a company has to provide 13 documents. Earlier it was 22.
Still, there are many areas which require reforms. Six working days are required to release goods from the port whereas in Singapore it takes only three hours. The cost of our port is high compared to Singapore.
Currently Bangladesh is ranked 177 among 190 countries in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Index and we need to improve fast here. Foreign companies will flock in our country with their investment if we can improve our rule and simplify it for businesses.
I hope the government will bring about appropriate changes soon so that Bangladesh can have a better rank in the index.
