Job-oriented education system
April 30, 2019 00:00:00
This is in reference to the front-page lead item in the Monday's issue of The Financial Express titled 'Banking sector yet to meet global standards'. It is unfortunate that while the country is progressing in many parameters, its banking system lags behind the international standard. Undue interferences in the functioning of banks should be stopped and the definition of loan defaulters should changed to bring improvement in the banking sector.
We must utilise our demographic dividend for economic development. For this we need to introduce job-oriented education system and skill development from the school level as emphasised by Planning minister Muhammad Abdul Mannan and eminent economist Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud. We cannot afford to continue with an education system that does not prepare the youths for the job market. We need to act now - and act now.
