Launching of Bangabandhu Satellite

BANGLADESH entered into a new phase of geostationary communication technology with the successful launching of Bangabandhu Satellite-1, the first ever space venture of Bangladesh. With it Bangladesh has become the 57th country of the world to have a communication satellite of its own. The satellite was launched into orbit from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA which is the hub of world's space technology.

It was a big challenge for the government to complete the project successfully. Undoubtedly it will enrich our communication and broadcasting services. It is a highly technical and sophisticated project that will meet the communication needs of most of our satellite television channels, mobile phone services, internet services, meteorological office which are dependent on foreign satellites. It is a huge boost for us in terms of improved communication facilities and is going to save a lot of hard earned foreign exchange. It is a milestone that entitles us to be a member of world elite satellite club and the government truly deserves to be congratulated for this historic venture.
