Making Dhaka an ideal city

Making Dhaka an ideal city | February 01, 2018 00:00:00

OUR capital city is becoming chaotic day by day. Its liveability standard is going down. All the negative elements such as air pollution, noise pollution, traffic gridlock, water logging etc that impair the urban quality of a city are present here.

Last but not least, frequent gatherings on the streets by activists of various organisations, especially in front of the national press club, have contributed to worsening of the situation as vehicles are forced to remain stranded for hours. It causes tremendous sufferings for the commuters as they lose both time and money. Traffic situation is now worse than ever before. Apparently there are no rules on the road and the situation is further aggravated by the ongoing construction works of some mega projects like the metro-rail.

Despite taking a number of steps to improve the traffic scenario, nothing has changed. On the other hand, pollution situation is also getting worse. The city sky is becoming increasingly smoggy everyday. Dusts are everywhere and the black smoke emitted by unfit vehicles is polluting the air heavily. And there is no limit to the noise pollution. Even in the middle of the night high volume music are being played in many places causing severe disturbances for the neighbouring dwellers.

Whenever it rains many city streets are flooded due to water-logging. All these are very unfortunate phenomena for a city which could be one of the most beautiful mega-cities in Asia if things are properly planned.

If the situation could not be improved soon, the city will be totally unfit to reside. We hope that the authorities would take due steps very soon to make the city fit for healthy living.
