#MeToo movement spreads in India

October 11, 2018 00:00:00

It is great to see #MeeToo movement is gaining momentum in neighbouring India. Of late, junior minister for external affairs Mr MJ Akbar has been accused of sexual harassment. In the movie industry, the recent accusation of former Miss India and Hindi movie actress Tanushree Dutta against veteran actor Nana Patekar has created a storm in the media. After ten years, she accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on the sets of a movie in 2008 and has received support from her colleagues across the Bollywood movie industry and beyond. Many others are coming up and talking about sexual violence. Allegation of sexual harassment is surfacing against many others like director Mahesh Bahl, actor Alok Nath, and writer Chetan Bhagat. I'm sure the list is going to be longer in the coming days.

I think it is high time women came out and spoke up against sexual harassment so that the criminals cannot go scot-free and continue doing the misdeed. Days are over for the offenders as the victims are speaking up for the trauma they faced in the past. Things should be change now!
