Mugging in Dhaka on the rise

March 07, 2018 00:00:00

As we open newspapers, every day we inevitably come across series of mugging events in and outside Dhaka. This clearly indicates that mugging in Dhaka is on the rise. And due to inaction of the law enforcing agencies people are increasingly losing their interest to lodge any complaint with them. Unless the law enforcing agencies activate themselves people are not going to have any respite from the menacingly rising spate of crime. Many mugging gangs are active in the city and they are involved in forcibly snatching money and other valuables at times causing fatal injuries to the victims.

Often we see law enforcers getting hold of muggers who are small fries. They must nab the masterminds of the mugging syndicates so that we can have an improved law and order situation. We often see drug addicts being involved in mugging as they desperately need money to buy drugs. The number of drug addicts in our country is currently hovering around 7 to 8 million and I hope the home ministry will also take adequate measures to stop fast spreading drug habits in the country.
