Protect the migratory birds

October 17, 2018 00:00:00

Every year around winter, thousands of migratory birds fly thousands of miles to Bangladesh in search of food and habitat. The wetlands and forests in the country beckon them. But with rapid urbanisation, these natural resources are drastically fading away. As a result, the number of migratory birds is gradually decreasing.

Another undesirable trend is the illegal trapping and sale of these birds. During winter, these birds are caged and sold or are killed randomly. This should not happen. The government initiates awareness campaigns every year around this time to prevent the catching and killing of these birds. But still some people engage in such dastardly activities. I hope that the concerned authorities will find these criminals and take actions against them.

These birds and the natural resources they fly to in Bangladesh are part of the environment that needs to be protected.
