Public transport: A dreadful experience for women

PUBLIC transport has become a synonym for a dreadful experience for the women in Dhaka. It has been found that 94 out of every 100 women passengers are subjected to sexual harassment. Researchers say lack of proper enforcement of the existing law, excessive loading of passengers, inadequate lighting inside the vehicles and lack of supervision are the main reasons for sexual harassment of women in public transports. The leaders of public transport services and the government authorities and leaders of transport service should sit together and work out a common strategy to stop this crime.
