Reducing traffic to quicken transportation system

June 19, 2018 12:00:00

Thousands of registered and unregistered vehicles are plying the limited number of streets across the country. Often these vehicles are found to be at fault for nagging traffic jam. Development of transportation system is one of the major parameters to signify the growth of a country. People remain the worst sufferers of traffic jam that creates obstacle to faster communication. It takes almost more than double of one's usual time to reach a destination in Bangladesh and sometimes we fail to attend appointment or commitment set earlier. Many think that a significant reason for traffic jam is thousands of small vehicles like CNG-run auto-rickshaws, taxis and lots of private cars. With this limited road network, it becomes often impossible to accommodate the huge number of private vehicles. Besides, most of the drivers are not properly trained and licensed by the BRTA. It poses huge risk for mass people and whenever travelling they feel the uncertainty of safe arrival at destinations. In developed countries, small vehicles are rarely used for transportation. They use public buses, metro rails and large shutters to ensure hassle-free communication. The government should take some effective initiatives to reduce traffic on the streets - especially checking the small vehicles.
