Road repair schedules

CITY dwellers have been facing severe inconveniences due to lack of prior information on maintenance and repair works of the city streets by different government agencies including the city corporations.

Recently, on reaching in front of my house at Mirpur Section-6 area at around 11.30 pm, I found that the concrete slabs connecting the road and the parking space of my apartment building were being removed by workers of the city corporation as they were conducting road carpeting works. As the slabs were used as approach to the parking space there was no way to park my car inside the building and I had to drive back from Mirpur to Paltan -- a distance of around 12 km - to park the car in the parking space of a friend's house.

I faced similar problem on another day while I was on my way from Badda to Bashundhara Residential Area. A portion of one lane of the two-lane road was closed for traffic as city corporation people were conducting carpeting works. We were directed to go through the wrong side of the road and there was huge congestion of vehicles. It took me an hour to cross the half kilometre distance. If we had prior information we could reach our destination by taking an alternative route.

We hope that the concerned authority would appreciate this problem and take proper steps to let the city dwellers know earlier about the schedule for upcoming road maintenance works so that unwanted troubles could be avoided.
