Self-control should be practised from childhood

July 09, 2019 00:00:00

Road accidents, molestation, violence, conflicts among leaders and followers have become very common in the country. If we think deeply, one of the reasons behind these is the lack of self-control. People are not judging ethical issues before doing anything wrong or illegal. This is why we are failing to eliminate corruption from our country.

Self-control indicates the ability to overcome one's thoughts, emotions, and behaviour in order to achieve long-term goals. It is also an important concept from leadership. Goal setting, self-evaluation, confidence, motivation, will power, avoidance of temptation-these are some of the strategies used for developing self-control. Without self-control a leader cannot take the right decision during crucial moments.

Individuals with low self-control tend to be impulsive and insensitive to others. One should practise self-control from childhood. Parents, teachers and peers can help children understand and value self-control.
