Sexual assaults on women and children
July 14, 2019 00:00:00
The number of sexual assaults and rape incidents are increasing across the country. Besides adult females, little children, toddlers and even young boys are falling prey to rapists.
As rape and sexual assault victims struggle with the mental trauma, one of the questions they often face is: "What were you wearing?" Those who ask this question somehow equate rape with the attire of the victim prior to the incident.
Does dressing pattern really incite rapists? Many criminologists have stated otherwise. In fact, we have seen incidents of rape happening against someone like Nusrat who wore a burqa. Then there are the cases of child victims as well.
This false belief that is prevalent in our society needs to be broken.
The focus should be on how the victim and her or his family can be helped. The actual criminals need to be arrested and brought to book.
