Shuvo nababarsha!

Today is Pahela Baishakh - the first day of 1426 BS. The people are in a festive mood and celebrating the occasion with elaborate programmes all over the country. There are traditional melas along with ultra-modern Baishakhi concerts.

Baishakhi melas are at the heart of the Bengali culture. Dolls and flutes give thrill and fun to the children. The ladies and girls put on traditional yellow sarees. Pottery items and various local delicious food items are additional attractions of the melas. Halkhata (starting of new accounting year) is another tradition. Businesspersons will entertain their old clients with sweetmeats.

Traditional folk music and dance will add additional recreational pleasure of this day. Mangal Shobhajatra, a procession of good wishes, will attract many people. Musical arrangement of Chhayanaut at Ramna Botomul will be the main attraction of the day.
