Sundarbans under threat

IT is evident from various statistics available that the number of tress and animals in the mangrove forest Sundarbans is declining everyday. Recently a cargo vessel containing about 775 tonnes of coal sank in Passur River and the effects of the accident must be spreading across the river affecting the environment of the area. According to experts, the level of Ph of water may have reduced because of an accident of this nature. Plenty of fishes in the region may have died. In addition, the water of the area may have been polluted. It may be dangerous to use the water of the river for essential household works without knowing the problem. To save this mangrove forest and eco-systems of the country is our main responsibility and the government should take immediate steps to purify the water of this area where coal spilled from the ship. I would like to request our Prime Minister to prioritise maintenance of the ecological balance of the Sundarbans so that people living around this area do not to have to face any problem due to man-made disasters.
