The street food craze

March 19, 2019 00:00:00

In an era where time management is paramount, the demand for quick and filling food is ever increasing. While almost no portion of the youth demographic is immune to the charms of street food, it is most popular among school-goers. Most of these customers attend schools on empty stomachs as they are usually late for school. They are thus famished and enjoy the street food items that can not satisfy their nutritional requirements.

School-goers are required to have a balanced diet in order to develop their physical and mental capabilities. Street food items can never be a suitable alternative to a healthy breakfast. To make matters worse, the street vendors prepare their food items in sub-par conditions. Some also use adulterated and often expired ingredients. Leftovers are stored in environments prone to bacteria and sold to students again on the following day. Studies have shown that these food items can cause diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid fever and food poisoning.

The concerned authority of the government can inspect the food items being sold by the street food vendors. This will ensure better and safe food for the school-going children.
