When gaming turns out to be an addiction

October 18, 2018 00:00:00

Playing games on Smartphone or on the personal computer may sound rather innocuous. But, is that how it really is? Online and mobile games are very much addicting. It is popularly said that children often addicted to games. But adults are equally addicted to online and mobile games.

Over the past two years, I have come across many adults who spend an inappropriate amount of time playing games. This is quite unthinkable. When someone spends so much time playing games, they end up neglecting their work and family. Games are designed such a way that the players get hooked to them. Some of the symptoms of gaming addiction are:

1) Feeling annoyed or irritated when one is unable to play.

2) Becoming preoccupied with the thought of the last game played or in anticipation of playing the next game.

3) Seeking isolation from others so that one can play more games.

4) Lying to others about the amount of time one spends playing the games.

5) Suffering from physical conditions like pain in the eyes, migraine, fatigue etc.

One needs to be extra careful about children. Of late, most of the children are spending more time on the phones and/or computers. This can lead to serious health complications. The kids should be kept away from mobile phones and computers.

If someone plays a game for a limited amount of time, these games can prove to be beneficial by increasing intelligence and mental reflexes and entertaining the player. But crossing the limit usually leads to addiction, which takes a serious turn in course of time.
