Zakat and loss of lives

May 19, 2019 00:00:00

During Ramadan, Zakat payers distribute goods and clothes to the poor. Instead of queuing up for their dues, the poor people often rush to get the clothes and goods. Such attempts lead to dangerous stampedes where many people are injured and even killed.

Islam as a faith does not support any form of showing off in the name of donations. People who donate sometimes hide their real motive of enhancing their popularity in the area. Two years ago, 10 lives were lost in Shatkania, Chattogram during a stampede that occurred at a zakat-giving ceremony.

If people want to donate for a religious cause, they can go to the respective houses of the poor people or contact them personally. If the list of the items for distribution is too long and if it is not possible to reach the poor, then proper process should be followed to avoid any kind of anarchy.

We do not want to see any kind of mismanagement and deaths in the name of Zakat and Fitra prior to Eid in this country.
