Police arrested BNP candidate from Gazipur-5 constituency Fazlul Haque Milon from his residence in Bottul village under Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur on Thursday afternoon, reports UNB.

Abdus Sabur, additional superintendent of police of the district, said a team of police arrested Milon, BNP organising secretary for Dhaka division and its Gazipur district unit president, around 4:00 pm while he was holding a meeting at his house.

The police official claimed that they made the arrest as the BNP leader was facing a warrant of arrest.

Meanwhile, the High Court (HC) stayed on Thursday the Election Commission's decisions that allowed BNP candidate M Rashiduzzaman Millat of Jamalpur-1 constituency to contest the 11th parliamentary election.

An HC bench led by Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order after hearing on a writ filed by Awami League candidate and former information minister Abul Kalam Azad.
