BNP has finally shared 58 seats with its partners from the Jatiya Oikyafront and the 20-party alliance, and fielded its own candidates in 242 constituencies to contest the 11th parliamentary elections, reports UNB.
Of the 300 candidates of BNP and its alliance partners, 298 will be there in the election race with the party's electoral symbol 'Sheaf of Paddy' while LDP chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmed with his own party symbol 'Umbrella' in Chattogram-14 seat and Jamaat leader Hamidur Rahman Azad as independent runner in Cox's Bazar-2 seat, according a list the party emailed to media on Sunday night.
BNP shared 19 seats with Oikyafront's components and 39 with its 20 party partners, including 22 with Jamaat. The party had shared 41 sets along with its then alliance partners in the 2008 general election.
Of the total 58 seats, BNP shared 7 with Dr Kamal Hossain-led Gano Forum while four each with ASM Abdur Rob-led Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Kader Siddiqui-led Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) and Mahmudur Rahman Manna-led Nagorik Oikya, five with LDP, three with Jamiat-e Ulema-e-Islam, two each with Khelafat Majlish and Jatiya Party (Zafar), and one each with Bangladesh Kalyan Party and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), Labour Party, National People's Party (NPP) and Peoples 'Party of Bangladesh (PPB).
The seven Gano Forum candidates are Subrata Chowdhury (Dhaka-6), Mostofa Mohsin Montu (Dhaka-7), Sultan Mohammed Mansur Ahmed (Moulvibazar-2), Reza Kibria (Habiganj-1), AHM Khalequzzaman (Mymensingh-8), AMSA Amin (Kurigram-2) and Prof Abu Sayeed (Pabna-1).
The four JSD candidates are Abdur Rob (Laxmipur-4), Abdul Malek Ratan (Cumilla-4), Shahiduddin Mahmud Swapan (Dhaka-18) and Prof Dr Muhammad Saiful Islam (Kishoreganj-3).
The four KSJL candidates are Kader Siddiqui's daughter Kuri Siddiqui (Tangail-8), Liakat Ali (Tangail-4), Iqbal Siddiqui (Gazipur-3) and Monzurul Islam Natore-1.
The candidates of Nagorik Oikya are Mahmudur Rahman Manna (Bogura-2), SM Akram (Narayanganj-5), Shah Rahmat Ullah (Rangpur-1) and Nurur Rahman Jahangir (Barishal-8).
The five LDP contenders are Oli Ahmed (Chattogram-14), Syed Mahmud Morshed (Mymensingh-10), Redwan Ahmed (Cumilla-7), M Shahadat Hossain (Lakshmipur-1) and Nurul Alam (Chattogram-7).
The three Jamiat-e Ulema-e-Islam candidates who will be there in the election with BNP's symbol are Monir Hossain (Narayanganj-4), Md Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury (Sunamganj-3) and Ubaidullah Faruk (Sylhet-5).
The two Khelafat Majlish candidates are Abdul Basit Azad (Habiganj-2) and Ahmed Abdul Kader (Habiganj-4).
Jatiya Party (Zafar) leaders TI Fazle Rabbi and Ahshan Habib Linkon are in the election race from Gaibandha-3 and Kushtia-2 constituencies respectively with the BNP's symbol.
BJP candidate chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partha will contest the election from Dhaka-17 while Kalyan party chairman Syed Muhammad Ibrahim from Chattogram-5, NPP president Fariduzzaman Farhad from Narail-2, PPB president Rita Rahman from Rangpur-1 and Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran from Projpur-1 with the election symbol of BNP.
The 22 Jamaat leaders who are contesting the election with BNP's tickets are Dr Shafiqur Rahman (Dhaka-15), Rafiqul Islam Khan (Sirajganj-4), Mia Goalm Parwar (Khulna-5), Abul Kalam Azad (Khulna-6), Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher (Cumilla-11), Shamsul Islam (Chattogram-15, Hamidur Rahman Azad (Cox's Bazar-2), Abdul Hakim (Thakurgaon-2), Abu Hanif (Dinajpur-1), Anwarul Islam (Dinajpur-6), Moniruzzaman Montu (Nilphamari-2), Azizul Islam (Nilphamari-3), Majedur Rahman Gaibandha-1, Abdul Khalique (Satkhira-2), Gazi Nazrul Islam (Satkhira-4), Shameem Sayedee (Pirohpur-1), Abdul Wadud (Bagerhat-3), Abdul Alim (Bagerhat-4), Abu Sayeed M Shahdat Hossain (Jashore-2), Motiur Rahman (Jhenidah-3), Iqbal Hossain (Pabna-5) and Golam Rabbani (Rangpur-5).
Besides, executed war criminal Matiur Rahman Nizami's son Barrister Najib Momen and Jamaat leader Nurul Islam Babul will contest the election as independent candidates from Pabna-1 and Chapainawabganj-3 seats.
