Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has proposed to take BNP chief Khaleda Zia to Dhaka's CMH for medical tests, hours after her family sought permission from the home ministry to take her to the United Hospital, report agencies.

Inspector General of Prisons Syed Iftekhar Uddin told reporters on Tuesday morning: "Jail authorities decided to take her to BSMMU, but she is not willing to take treatment there."

Following the IG prisons' statement, a BNP delegation on behalf of Khaleda's family went to the home ministry, seeking to transfer her to the United Hospital.

After receiving the application, the minister said: "We will propose to take Khaleda Zia to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for best treatment in line with the jail code."

"If she wants to go there, we can arrange medical tests for her. We will try our best for her treatment."

He also said: "The Bangabandhu Medical University and the CMH are better than any private hospital. Specialist doctors are there. Moreover, the CMH has played a role in many crisis moments. Considering this, we will offer treatment at the CMH."

According to the IG prisons, Khaleda prefers to take treatment at the United Hospital.
