Natore road crash leaves 13 dead

NATORE, Aug 25 (Agencies): At least 13 people were killed and 31 others injured in a road crash on Natore-Pabna highway at Kadamchilan in Lalpur upazila on Saturday afternoon.

Quoting locals, police said all the deceased were passengers of the human hauler, but their identities could not be known immediately.

The accident took place when a Bogura-bound bus of from Pabna hit a human-hauler (locally named as laguna) carrying 15 passengers around 4:10pm, leaving 13 passengers of the human-hauler dead on the spot and 31 bus travellers injured, said Biplob Bijay Talukder, superintendent of Natore Police.

Bonpara highway police recovered the bodies.

Police said 10 passengers of the human hauler died on the spot, while 35 passengers of both the vehicles were injured in the accident.

Three other passengers of the human hauler succumbed to their injuries on way to Banpara Amina Hospital, the OC added.

On information, a team of Fire Service and Civil Defence and several teams of police from Lalpur Police Station and Banpara Highway Police Station rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.

The other injured persons were taken to different hospitals, including Natore Sadar Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Meanwhile, the district administration formed a three-member probe committee, led by additional district magistrate Mohammad Saiduzzaman, which has been asked to submit report within five working days.

Besides, the local administration announced to provide Tk 20,000 to each of the deceased's families and Tk 10,000 to each of the injured victim's families.
