The Dhaka city experienced heavy rain on Wednesday, which caused immense sufferings to the city dwellers and disrupted trade and economic activities.

Although the capital witnessed downpour in the morning and evening after an interval, the extent of rainfall was much higher in the evening.

The office and school goers had to suffer a lot during the morning rainfall while the working people and the city dwellers also faced untold sufferings in the evening.

Traffic congestions on different important city roads also contributed to the people's sufferings. People were seen standing under roadside sheds or buildings and waiting for transport to return home.

Hasan Adil, a private job holder, told the FE that he was waiting for more than an hour near the Purana Paltan intersection to catch the city's Badda-bound bus after his office hours and got stranded there because of the sudden rain.

Adil was among the hundreds of others who were taking shelter at the nearby buildings to avoid getting dripping wet before being lucky to get on their buses.

The rainfall also brought hailstorm, thunderstorm and temporary gusty wind at different parts of the city as elsewhere across the country under the influence of a seasonal low that was lying over the South Bay, according to the Met office.

The month-long book fair in the city also experienced disruption on its 27th day. Stall owners, book buyers and visitors rushed for cover suddenly after the rain had lashed the fair venue.

The sales were not as usual due to the rain, said book stall owners adding that the fair witnessed a lower number of visitors.

Rain or thunder-showers accompanied by temporary squally wind are likely to occur at many places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions and at a few places of Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy rainfall

and hails at some places, according to a Met office bulletin.

The night and day temperature might remain nearly unchanged over the country, said the Met office forecast.

The country's highest temperature on Tuesday was 30.2 degrees Celsius at Cox's Bazar and minimum temperature 15.7 degrees Celsius at Srimangal.
