Bangladesh began their World Cup campaign with a 21-run win over South Africa at the Oval on Sunday, according to agencies.

The Tigers posted their highest one-day international total of 330 for six, with Mushfiqur Rahim (78) and Shakib Al Hasan (75) putting on 142 before Mahmudullah added late impetus with an unbeaten 46.

Bangladesh then restricted South Africa to 309 for eight with fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman taking three wickets.

South Africa's defeat meant they had lost their first two matches of this World Cup following their 104-run thrashing by England in Thursday's tournament opener at the Oval.

Shakib Al Hasan became the first Bangladeshi - and fastest cricketer - to the double of 250 wickets and 5,000 runs in ODIs, getting there quicker than the likes of Shahid Afridi and Jacques Kallis.
