65 companies selected for Nat’l Export Trophy

A total of 65 companies will be awarded the National Export Trophy 2016-17 for their outstanding performance in the export sector, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will give away the awards to the companies at an award-giving ceremony shortly.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will also be present at the ceremony.

"The companies have been selected for the export trophies on the basis of their export performance including export volume, new market expansion, new product, compliance and growth rate of the export volume," a commerce ministry high official told the FE.

"It's not possible to disclose the names of the selected companies before gazette notification. It is very confidential," he added.

Gold, silver and bronze trophies will be presented to the business enterprises or establishments for their outstanding contributions to the country's export earnings, the official said.

Of the 65 companies, 28 have been selected for gold trophy, 21 for silver trophy and 16 for bronze trophy for the fiscal year 2016-17.

Zaber and Zubair Fabrics Limited won the gold trophy as the best exporter for FY 2016-17.

A total of 56 companies were awarded the National Export Trophy for FY 2015-16 while a total of 62 companies received the National Export Trophy for FY 2014-15, according to the commerce ministry.
