ACC finds evidence of graft at DPDC Jurain office

Ex-BNP lawmaker Dulu quizzed

FE Report | May 08, 2019 00:00:00

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) found on Tuesday evidence of graft and other irregularities at Jurain office of Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) during an enforcement drive.

The commission, in its hotline-106, received complaints that the DPDC meter readers via brokers charge extra money to the customers for providing different services.

Acting on the allegation, an ACC enforcement team conducted a drive at the DPDC office where they revealed irregularities in electric meter connection and meter renewal process.

Scrutinising different service related documents, the team found evidence of graft against some meter readers and their connection with the brokers.

The commission suggested DPDC (Jurain) Executive Engineer Ruhul Amin Fakir to discharge the corrupt meter readers from their duties through procedures.

Meanwhile, the anti-graft authority quizzed former lawmaker and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organising secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu over graft allegations.

ACC assistant director Md Shafiullah interrogated Mr Dulu, the former parliament member from Natore-2 constituency, at the commission headquarters from 10am to 2:00pm.

The ACC has been investigating allegations of accumulating illegal wealth by Mr Dulu worth Tk 5.0 billion through drug dealing, tender trade, extortion from businesses etc.

However, coming out of the interrogation, the BNP leader told journalists that the government has been using the anti-graft watchdog to harass opposition leaders politically.
