CHITTAGONG Jan 01: The proposed site for the IT (Information Technology) village has been shifted to Firoz Shah Shohid Minar area from Bakolia in the city due to land dispute.
Sources at the IT Park Authority said the site selection has been finalised and an 18-storey building will be developed on 18.50 katha of land offered by Bangladesh Railway (east zone).
Managing director of the authority Ms. Hosne Ara Begum said the park was initially proposed to be set up on an area of 14 acres of land at Bakolia in the city with an estimated cost of Tk 400 million.
But there were some disputes over the land that might delay the project, she said. "In the meantime, we got a piece of land from the railway at the area under Akbor Shah police station and decided to set up the park there."
A senior official at the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) confirmed the decision of shifting the site, saying that there are some temporary make-shift houses and a slam on the land, which will be evicted within few days.
He said a team of experts from BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology) recently visited the proposed site. Work on the project is expected to start after holding discussion with the CCC Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin, who is scheduled to arrive here from abroad today.
Education and training on computer literacy, English language course, graphics designing, android mobile operation & development, web designing & development, and many other related academic learning will be imparted to thousands of youths in the Chittagong region once the IT village is established.
