BAAS to celebrate 50 years of operation on Sept 15-16

Bangladesh AOTS Alumni Society (BAAS) is set to celebrate 50 years of its operation through a programme in the capital on September 15-16 this year.

The two-day programme, with the slogan 'Aspiration to Action, Emerging Bangladesh', will be held at the grand ballroom of Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.

BAAS leaders disclosed this at a press conference at a city hotel on Saturday.

The Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS), an autonomous body of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan, is engaged in human resources development for the developing countries.

The BAAS is organisation formed by those who received technical or management training under the auspices of AOTS, Japan.

The opening session will be held on Saturday at 09:30am. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, speaker of Bangladesh Parliament, has given her kind consent to inaugurate the programme as the chief guest. Dr Mashiur Rahman, economic affairs adviser to the Prime Minister, will remain present as the special guest.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain would grace the closing ceremony being present as the chief and special guests respectively.

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Hiroyasu Izumi and president of AOTS, Japan Shinya Kuwayama will be present as guests of honour.

AOTS has been offering scholarship to train up students and professions from various countries, including Bangladesh, since 1959 with the cooperation of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan.

BAAS has been working as a local office of AOTS, Japan to scrutinise, recruit and send the trainees to Japan under various scholarship programmes.

BAAS president Architect Zakariul Islam said around 4,000 people have received training till date, which has a great impact in the industrial and business sectors of Bangladesh.
