Bashundhara Shopping Mall owners apologise

Bashundhara Shopping Mall Mobile Business Owners Samity (BSMMBOS) apologised Sunday for the agitation during the raid of customs intelligence team on Saturday claiming that outsiders were involved with the incident.

The traders confined the officials for more than one and a half hours on Saturday when the team, led by its Additional Director General Kazi Ziauddin, started a midday raid on one of the largest shopping malls in the country.

Golam Kutub Uddin, president of the samity, in a letter to the Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) said some unidentified persons created unrest outside the mall during the drive.

"Businessmen of the shopping mall were not involved in the agitation," he said in the letter.

The security forces and businessmen controlled the situation later, he added.

He said if someone of the market is found involved in the incident, the samity will take action as per rules of the market.

On Saturday, the CIID team carried out a drive in the shopping mall and seized around 100 mobile sets, mostly iPhone, from the shops.
