The state-run Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) on Monday inked deals to purchase around 226 megawatt (MW) of electricity from two furnace oil-fired power plants of Confidence Power Holdings Ltd (CPHL) for 15 years.
The furnace oil-fired power plants, having the generation capacity of around 113MW electricity each, would be set up in Rangpur and Bogra. The two plants are expected to be commissioned by mid-2018.
Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) selected the contractor to build the power plants under 'Speedy Supply of Power and Energy (Special Provision) Act 2010' bypassing the tendering system.
The cabinet committee on public purchase on August 09 gave approval for awarding these two power plants along with several others to generate around 1,768 MW of electricity by 2018.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed by BPDB secretary Mina Masuduzzaman and managing director of Confidence Power Holdings Ltd Khalid Islam.
The implementation agreement (IA) on the project was inked by Confidence Power Holdings Ltd, Power Division and state-run Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd (PGCB).
Power Division Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, BPDB chairman Khaled Mahmood, Vice-Chairman of Confidence Power Holdings Ltd Imran Karim and top officials of BPDB and Confidence Group were present at the signing ceremony.
Subsidiaries of Confidence Power Holdings Ltd, Confidence Power Bogra Ltd and Confidence Power Rangpur Ltd will implement these power plants.
